About the Department
The Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) advances SMU's
strategic goals by supporting and safeguarding research growth. ORI
provides leadership, communication, responsiveness, and
transparency to the research community.
Research Integrity & Compliance (RIC) is the central office for
research compliance, helping faculty, staff, and students navigate
federal and state regulations to facilitate innovative research.
RIC supports and protects the university's interests through
guidance, education, and technical assistance, overseeing programs
like HRPP/IRB, IACUC, IBC, RCR, Conflict of Interest, Export
Control, and NAGPRA, among others.
About the Position
This is an on-campus, in-person role.
The Associate Director of Research Compliance primarily advises
faculty, staff, and student researchers to ensure research quality
and compliance with university and regulatory standards. The role
involves developing and enforcing compliance strategies,
collaborating with departments, and providing guidance on
regulatory and ethical research practices.
Key Responsibilities
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required; Master's
preferred, especially in sciences. At least five years in research
compliance, with experience in protocol reviews and committee
management. Experience working with faculty and students, with
knowledge of human subjects regulations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Leadership, interpersonal skills,
problem-solving, regulatory knowledge, communication, strategic
planning, technical proficiency, and adaptability.
